How to renovate your basement? | |
· Make a list which encompasses the basement renovation according to how you want to use your space. Include all items which you want to buy and add to the basement. For instance, putting in new floors, replacing old equipment, or even getting an entertainment system.
· Check the list and see where you could scale back. Cut costs by repairing a used entertainment system and not purchase a new one.
· Think of utilizing a brush-on floor compound, which is quite inexpensive compared with other flooring options like tile or hardwood. Simply mix to apply using a brush, coating and waterproofing your floor. Another option could be commercial grade carpeting - cheaper than the plush one.
· Rent the sanding machine from the local hardware store to sand down the existing basement walls and prepare them to be painted. That saves you an expensive, complete drywall installation. An alternative to painting, apply floor coating compound onto the walls too.
· Mount drop ceilings and not dry-walled ceilings.
· Put independent lighting fixtures and lamps in your basement and not the more costly recessed lighting.
· Disguise basement equipment (like heating units) using paint, or hide those as removal can be extremely expensive.
