How to stop basement wall cracks? | |
· Check how the basement wall crack goes. If it is horizontal, the wall is surely bowing and a foundation contractor should be called. Vertical or diagonal cracks are repaired by homeowners.
· Find a contractor with engineering as well as building experience who can show proof of his qualifications for a bowing wall.
· Purchase the epoxy injection system and repair a diagonal or vertical crack, available in home improvement centers.
· Put 3-inch finishing nails each foot along the crack and tap them in place using a hammer.
· Mix the 2-part epoxy mix which came in your kit. Put some epoxy onto the bottom of the injection ports which came in the kit, sliding them onto the finishing nails, into the crack.
· Spread the remaining epoxy on the dry and cleaned crack with a putty knife. Your epoxy should be relatively thin and spread over and across the crack an inch on both sides. Wait ten to six hours for it to dry completely.
· Insert an epoxy cartridge provided in the kit in the caulking gun and inject epoxy with it directly into this crack with an injection port. Continue injecting epoxy in each port, beginning at the wall bottom and finish at the end of the crack.
Wait around five days. Cut the injection ports off with a hacksaw till they are flush with the wall, covering with crack sealer so that you cannot tell where they were.
