basement deodorizer?

I recently had a central air and heat system installed in my basement and I find the system is sucking up an odor which is damp and musty. What can I use to get rid of the scent?

1I found an absorbent at Home Depot that actually works. It's a bag that contains small rocks that absorb smells.
