217 year old stone foundation, partial dirt floor, chiseled some stone, built a frame and installed a door to cover opening where basement opens to bilko door. Now is colder than before. Why? | |
the basement was cold before. thought installing a door (plastic sheeting wasn't covering the draft enough) would help warm it up. Now it is so cold you can see your breath. Did I "capture" the cold? I thought the basement was supposed to stay at a relatively warm temperature because of the earth's temperature. Thought it would be better for the furnace to get the cold draft off of it. What did I do wrong? What can I do to make it warmer? I started to insulate the ceiling because the upstairs floor is cold, but don't want to "capture" any more cold. Also thought to insulate the ductwork from the furnace, but now think the basement needs the residual heat.
What should I do?
