Why does my basement smell like cat litter when I don't have a cat? | |
We just moved into a house (built in 1970) The previous owner had cats, but we never saw any evidence of the cats while viewing the house. Once when we visited, the basement had no distinct odor, and 2 weeks later, I could smell something like dirty cat litter. We have lived here for almost 2 months now and the smell is still in the basement - some days stronger than others and some not at all. The inspector thought it was a small gas leak, but when checked, didn't seem to be the problem. Could this be the dry drain smell or is something else stinking up my basement?
